Eco tourism in Sergipe

The TAMAR PROJECT

It was created more than 10 years ago for the preservation of the marine turtles, threatened of extinction. Several bases were implanted along the Brazilian coast. In Sergipe, Pirambu (70 Km of Aracaju) was selected, the base model in effectiveness. Of the two million turtle's lanched to the sea during the last years, 400 thousand left Pirambu. The tourist can visit the facilities and get to know each species better, besides contributing for the cause adopting a newly born turtle and lancing it to the sea. A ritual under measure for the ecoturists.

Ecological Reserves of Crasto

In the municipal district of Santa Luzia of Itanhy there is one of the largest Atlantic forest reserves of the state. Several near extinct species are protected from hunting and the indiscriminate use of chainsaws. The reserves is compact and it is impressive because of the height of the tops of the trees. The forest is very dense, with small and narrow trails in its interior. A Great option for trekking.

Range of Mountains

The lovers of free flight can practice this sport soaring above the mountains of Itabaiana and Machado. The first one is protected by IBAMA and has waterfalls, corridors and wells. In order to camp in the mountains it is necessary to acquire an authorization from IBAMA, besides the recommendations that are implanted so that there are no accidents in the area. There is a lot of care against criminal started fires, because the area stays dry throughout the drought for some months of the year.

Xingo

To know one of the largest and more modern hydroelectric power plants in the world is an ever so exiting adventure ! The Xingo Hydroelectric scheme, located in the municipal district of Canindé of San Francisco, 220 km from Aracaju, impresses anyone for its grandeur. It is open for visits from Monday to Sunday from 8:00am to 12:00pm and from 1:00pm to 5:00pm . The tour begins with a presentation on video of all the stages at the observatory. After that a conducted visit to the dam itself.
